RULES FOR THE CALL FOR THE “OPERA PRIMA” NATIONAL FEATURE FILM COMPETITION, FOR THE 8TH PILAR DE LA HORADADA INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL 2024.
1.- The scope of the contest is national. All Spanish production companies or directors who have the rights and due legal control over the works they present may participate.
All feature films of Spanish nationality that constitute the first directing work will be admitted to the competition. Those who direct their first feature film alone may participate, even if they have previously participated in a co-direction.
The works will be presented in their original language; if it is not Spanish, they must be subtitled in this language. Registration is free.
2.- Exclusively fiction feature films may be submitted. Documentary, advertising, promotional, informative or informative genres, “fashion films” or video clips are not admitted. Their duration will be greater than 60 minutes.
3.- Feature films produced in the years 2023 and 2024, which have not been submitted to any previous edition of this Contest, will be admitted.
The submitted feature films may have been premiered or presented at other festivals, but they may not be published on any free viewing internet portal.
4.- Only one feature film per director will be admitted to the competition. The production company can present as many works as it wishes.
5.- The call and registration period for feature films opens on June 5, 2024, with admission of works closing on September 6 of the same year.
6.- Registration and submission of works will be done online, through the Festhome platform.
7.- A Selection Committee made up of professionals from the media and members of the Festival organization team will be in charge of selecting, from among all the feature films presented, those that will participate in the “FEATURE FILMS 'FIRST FILM' SECTION”, which will be screened during the days of the Contest in the theater chosen by the organization and will compete for the PILAR AWARD “BEST FEATURE FEATURE FILM”.
The ruling of the Selection Committee is final. The selection will be made public during the month of October 2024.
The Festival will inform all those selected in writing, through the email provided in the registration, of the results of the selections, with a minimum period of two weeks before the start of the contest, in addition to publishing the selection on its official website. being able to previously disseminate on social networks, for promotional purposes, those selected progressively, communicating it to them at the same time of said publication.
The Festival will facilitate transportation from the train station, bus or airport closest to Pilar de la Horadada to the screening room, so that the creator or representative of the selected work can attend the presentation of said work on the day of its exhibition to the public.
The selected works must be sent in a digital format suitable for screening, along with the rest of the promotional material for the feature film.
8.- The prize for this contest will be awarded by the public attending the screenings, by voting.
9.- The feature films in the “FEATURE FILMS ‘FIRST FILM’ SECTION” will compete for the “PILAR AWARD FOR BEST FEATURE FILM ‘FIRST FILM’ 2024”.
The Public, with its vote, will award the following prize:
“PILAR DE ORO” FOR THE BEST FEATURE FILM ‘FIRST FILM’, awarded with €750 in cash + statuette.
The winner will be announced at the PILAR 2024 AWARDS Delivery Gala, which will be held on November 16, 2024 in Pilar de la Horadada (Alicante).
10.- The nominees for the awards will be invited by the organization to the Closing Gala and Pilar 2024 Awards Ceremony. To facilitate their attendance, the expenses of two nights of accommodation (Friday, November 15 and Saturday, November 16) and transportation service will be covered. transfer from the nearest bus station, train or airport to the venue of the Awards Gala, in Pilar de la Horadada. Therefore, there must be representation of the technical or artistic team, preferably the director, of the feature film that is competing for the award.
11.- The decision of the public vote is final. In the event that there were no participants, the follow-up was less than expected, or the quality of the works was not the minimum required by the Festival, the awards could be declared void. Likewise, if any of the winners do not meet the requirements established in these rules, the prizes corresponding to them could be declared void.
12.- The transfer of rights to the works for free exhibition will be exclusively for the screenings included in the “Feature Films ‘First Film’ Section”. The winning feature film may also be screened again in an additional session after the Festival, on a date to be determined, in order to make the winners known to the public. The producers and directors of the feature films authorize, by registering, the promotional actions of the festival, allowing the projection of a maximum of three minutes of their works presented for broadcast in any media, with the sole advertising purpose of the Festival in any of its editions.
13.- The feature films awarded in each edition may be screened later, within future Festival programming, in order to commemorate past editions in exhibitions such as the so-called “Cortopilar Classics”, always in sessions with free admission and without the intention of profit.
14.- The material received from the selected feature films will be archived in the Festival's newspaper archive.
15.- Participants are responsible for ensuring that the feature films presented are not subject to any legal claim and are within the provisions of the Intellectual Property law. In any case, the festival organization declines any responsibility for the possible illegal content of the works received.
16.- The Festival may award any honorable mention not specified in these rules and will not maintain any feedback about the works presented or its decisions with the participants, who, by virtue of being participants, fully accept the rules of this contest.
17.- The Festival will develop in the best possible way the communication, advertising and promotion tasks of all events, activities and programming through its official website: www.cortopilar.com and social networks, Instagram: @cortopilar, Facebook : www.facebook.com/cortopilar, as well as advertising in regional television, radio, press, etc. media.
18.- Participation in the contest implies full acceptance of all the sections of these rules, as well as the resolution, by the organization, of any problem not provided for in them.
19.- Cash prizes will be subject to the corresponding tax withholdings.
20.- The organization reserves the right to modify these bases if necessary, communicating any relevant changes to the participants. The organization reserves the right to modify the dates of the festival if it is forced to do so for reasons beyond its control.
