OJO DE PESCADO International Film Festival for Children and Youth is an annual event in Chile that gathers the most recent and exclusive film and TV contents from all over the world aimed at children and youth.
The Festival is organized by the OJO DE PESCADO CULTURAL CORPORATION, an exploration and action platform that, through the exhibition of films and the promotion of audiovisual creation, aims to help guarantee the right of children and young people to the integral education and communication and expression of their opinions.
The 11th edition of Ojo de Pescado Film Festival will take place online through the entire Chilean territory and in person only in the Region of Valparaíso (if the health situation allows it) between november 5 and november 15, 2024,
Competition Categories are:
- Short films for children.
- Television or web series for children.
- Feature films for children and adolescents.
- “Young Filmmakers” (short films made by children or young people).

The organization reserves the right to announce another prize in money and/or sponsors until the time of the 2024 Official Selection.
GENERAL CONDITIONS FOR REGISTRATION OF WORKS:
Registration for the competition is free and will run from May 2, 2024 at 00:01 AM (Chilean time) until July 7, 2024 at 11:59 PM (Chilean time) by completing the online registration form available at www.ojodepescado.cl
The registration form requires that the applicant provide a link to view the audiovisual work, which must be available throughout the selection process. The accepted links are Vimeo, YouTube or any other web platform that allows online viewing of the work.
The applicant can register as many works as they wish, completing a form for each of them.
Registrations are allowed on FESTHOME.COM following its instructions and charges.
All registered works must come in the original version in Spanish, or dubbed or subtitled in Spanish. Exceptionally, feature films can apply with original versions in any language, as long as they have English subtitles, which if selected would be subtitled into Spanish by the Ojo de Pescado Festival.
Works selected in other versions of the Festival cannot participate in this call. In the case of television or web series, series selected or winners in previous versions of the Festival may participate, but only if they apply with a new season.
Audiovisual works that the pre-selection jury considers to violate the Convention on the Rights of the Child will not be selected.
The organization of the contest reserves the right to make the decisions it deems appropriate for those cases not provided for in these rules.
EXHIBITION RIGHTS
to. The applicant, at the time of registering the work in competition, ensures that he or she has all the intellectual property rights of the registered work. The Festival is not responsible for legal actions taken by third parties.
b. The applicant whose work is part of the Official Selection of the 13th Ojo de Pescado Festival, in any of its categories, transfers free of charge the right to exhibit their work for the dates and territory in which the 13th Ojo de Pescado Festival will take place.
c. The exhibitions of the 13th Festival will be in person in all its categories.
d. The winners of the 13th Ojo de Pescado Film Festival additionally agree to assign the rights to their works free of charge for an in-person screening after the festival dates, without exceeding the month of January 2025.

The age of the target audience must be between 3 and 12 years old. The category will be divided and awarded into 2 subcategories according to the age ranges of the audiences: 3 to 6 years old and 7 to 12 years old.
PROFESSIONAL COMPETITION OF TELEVISION OR WEB SERIES FOR BOYS AND GIRLS
Series produced for television or any web platform, of professional production from Chile and the world, with a duration of less than or equal to 20 minutes, of fiction, animation or non-fiction genre, spoken, dubbed or subtitled in Spanish, or without dialogues, and completed as of January 1, 2022.
The age of the target audience must be between 3 and 12 years old. The category will be divided and awarded into 2 subcategories according to the age ranges of the audiences: 3 to 6 years old and 7 to 12 years old.
Registration must be for only one chapter of the series.

Professionally made films from Chile and the world, with a duration greater than or equal to 60 minutes, of fiction, animation or documentary genre, spoken in Spanish, subtitled or dubbed in Spanish, or without dialogue, completed as of January 1, 2022 Exceptionally, feature films can be nominated with original versions in any language, as long as they have at least English subtitles.
The age of the target audience must be between 6 and 11 years old.
FEATURE FILMS FOR TEENS – Subcategory.
Professionally made films from Chile and the world, with a duration greater than or equal to 60 minutes, of fiction, animation or documentary genre, spoken in Spanish, subtitled or dubbed in Spanish, or without dialogue, completed as of January 1, 2022 Exceptionally, feature films can be nominated with original versions in any language, as long as they have at least English subtitles.
The age of the target audience must be between 12 and 16 years old.
“YOUNG FILMMAKERS” SHORT FILM COMPETITION
Films made by boys, girls or young people from Chile or Latin America up to 18 years of age and attending primary or secondary education at the time the work was made. Applicants from higher education such as universities or professional institutes are excluded from this category, even if they are 18 years of age.
Short films must have a duration of less than or equal to 20 minutes, of fiction, animation or non-fiction genre, spoken in Spanish, subtitled in Spanish (in case they were not spoken in that language) or without dialogues, and finished on or after the 1st January 2022.
The technical and creative team of the work - director, cameraman, sound engineer, editor, producer or other - must be made up of boys, girls or young people as described for this category. Those over 18 years of age can participate as actors or characters in the play, or as teachers, monitors or guides of the processes, but the production team must be made up of a large majority of boys, girls and/or young people.
Young applicants can count on advice or support from an adult, teacher, mother, father, siblings in thematic reflection or aspects such as the use of editing software, notions of photography and lighting, however, the The result must be in accordance with a semi-professional work, of free creation and inspiration, carried out by a “Young Filmmaker” or a group of “Young Filmmakers” that faithfully reflects themes of interest in the world of children and youth, without the intervention of the gaze. of an adult.
SELECTION CRITERIA:
From the point of view of the themes, priority will be given to the selection of works that promote coexistence, respect, care for the environment, local culture, inclusion, acceptance of differences, identity, participation and opinion of boys and girls, among others related to the pillars of education according to UNESCO, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
From the point of view of narrative and audiovisual treatments, privilege will be given to works that consider boys and girls as a participatory and opinionated audience, that promote their integral development and that propose innovations in the way of bringing audiovisual content closer to children's audiences. increasingly diverse and active.
Only works with good technical quality, both in image and sound, that allow correct projection in cinemas will be considered.
Special attention will be paid to ensuring that the audiovisual works not only have children and/or adolescents as protagonists or raise themes that are of interest to them, but that their narrative treatment, duration, techniques and other aspects are relevant to the range. of children or youth audiences that they intend to reach. Criterion that will also be applied to the productions of “Young Filmmakers”.
SELECTION OF WORKS IN COMPETITION:
The works registered for the competition will be subject to a pre-selection process carried out by the Festival's programming and curatorial team.
The Official Selection of works for the 13th Ojo de Pescado Festival will be announced during the month of August 2024 on the page www.ojodepescado.cl and by email to all applicants.
The works that are part of the 2024 Official Selection accept that the Festival uses extracts from the material sent for preselection for promotion through audiovisual and web media.
The Festival does not pay for exhibition rights (fee) for the works that are part of the 2024 Official Selection.
The maximum deadline to send the exhibition copy will be September 30, 2024 for all categories in competition. Works that do not arrive within the deadline are automatically disqualified.
Exhibit copies must be digital files of one of the following options:
MP4 / H264 at 10,000 kbps, resolution of 1920 x 1080 pxls. minimum, AAC 48KHZ 16 bit audio.
Prores 422 or ProRes 422HQ, 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution. minimum.

If you have subtitles, they must come embedded (on screen) or in .srt files.
Along with sending the exhibition copy, the participant must send three representative photographs (still) of the work in .tiff 300dpi and, if available, a digital poster of the work to the emails programming@ojodepescado.cl and post@ojodepescado .cl
At the time of communicating the Official Selection, the Festival will confirm to the applicants if it will be able to make available air tickets, accommodation and/or food for the representative of each selected work, because this possibility depends on financing that is still being prepared. processing at the time of launching this call. However, if necessary, the Festival will collaborate in the management of transfer financing with national or foreign institutions other than the Festival.
The Ojo de Pescado Festival is not responsible for the stay and participation of minors who are not duly accompanied by their guardian, attorney-in-fact or legal representative.
The organization reserves the right to declare void any category in competition that does not meet a reasonable minimum number of participants.
JURY:
The jury of the professional categories will be made up of boys, girls and/or young people residing in Chile.
The jury for the “Young Filmmakers” category will be made up of professors and/or educators residing in Chile.
People directly related to the category they are responsible for evaluating cannot be part of the jury.
The jury's decision is final.
