21th INTERNATIONAL ETHNOGRAPHIC FILM SHOWCASE
MUSEO DO POBO GALEGO

GUIDELINES

The Museo do Pobo Galego promotes MICE (International Ethnographic Film Showcase), to be held in Santiago de Compostela from March 10 to 15, 2025. MICE aims to bring ethnographic cinema and audiovisual anthropology closer to the public, understanding ethnographic cinema as a tool for research, communication, and creative expression in representing cultural diversity. It seeks to create a space for dialogue and exchange, a forum around films that address different sociocultural realities, focusing on people, social groups, or relevant socio-historical processes related to Anthropology and Ethnography.

GENERAL CONDITIONS

To participate in the Official Selection, submitted works must have been produced after January 1, 2023.
Selection criteria include the relevance of the topics addressed, technical quality and aesthetic value, innovation in both subject matter and form, and scientific relevance.
Authors or producers may submit a maximum of two works. Films screened in previous editions, works by members of the organization, and films of a touristic or advertising nature will not be accepted.

SUBMISSION

Submissions may be made through Festhome. A fee of three euros applies to non-Galician works.
During the selection phase, films shot in languages other than Galician or Spanish must include subtitles, preferably in Galician or Spanish, or alternatively in english. If selected, the screening copy must be subtitled, preferably in Galician or Spanish.
The submission deadline is February 15, 2026, at 11:59 pm.

SELECTION

The MICE Direction will appoint a selection committee to evaluate submitted films and decide which will form part of the Official Selection. Once the process is complete, selected filmmakers will be notified.
All selected films will receive a screening fee established by the Festival according to length.
The person submitting a film is responsible for paying any applicable copyright fees.
The Festival organization will decide screening dates and times. Once listed in the catalog, films may not be withdrawn unilaterally.
Selected films must submit a screening copy, preferably in high-definition digital format. Copies not meeting minimum screening standards will not be accepted. The Festival must receive the screening copy before February 15, 2025.
The screening copy must include title, format, screen type, and sound type. Producers and/or distributors must provide promotional materials (press kit, three photographs, poster), trailer, and other materials for promotion. The screening copy must exactly match the version submitted for selection; failure to comply may result in disqualification.
Screening copies must include subtitles, preferably in Galician or Spanish, and accessibility criteria for deaf audiences will be considered.
After the festival, all selected films will become part of the MICE Museo do Pobo Galego archive, authorizing private consultation for educational and research purposes and non-profit cultural screenings.

JURIES

The jury will consist of professionals from the fields of cinema, audiovisual arts, anthropology, and culture, appointed by the MICE organization.

The jury may award special mentions. Voting will be secret and decisions made by absolute majority.

The Festival Direction may attend deliberations without voting rights. Jury members may not have interests in competing films.
