ARANIFF – Vielha International Independent Film Festival is an international independent film festival held in Vielha, Val d'Aran, dedicated to independent cinema, emerging filmmakers, creative freedom and cultural diversity.

The ARANIFF Escola Award (€500) will not be paid to the student; it will be awarded as funding for educational materials for the school.
Additional secondary awards with moderate cash prizes may be established, subject to the final budget and official announcement.


Award Payments, Taxes and Documentation

GROSS AMOUNTS
All cash awards shall be considered gross amounts and shall be subject to the applicable Spanish tax regulations.
PAYMENT AFTER THE FESTIVAL
Awards will be paid by bank transfer after the festival has concluded and once the necessary tax and administrative documentation has been received.
DOCUMENTATION
The organization may request an ID card/NIE/passport, tax information, bank account details, invoice, receipt or any other documentation required to process the payment.
COMBINABLE AWARDS
The same work may receive more than one award, except for Best Film — Gatilop de Oro and Jury Prize — Gatilop de Plata, which may not be awarded to the same film. All other awards may be combined.
PAYMENT BENEFICIARY
The organization will determine the individual or legal entity entitled to receive the payment according to the nature of the award, the submission details and the documentation provided.
Best Film: paid to the production company / legal representative of the work.
Jury Prize: paid to the production company / legal representative of the work.
Best Spanish Feature Film: production company / legal representative.
Short Films: production company, director or legal representative indicated in the submission.
Technical/Artistic Awards: awarded person or legal representative, according to the documentation provided.
ARANIFF Escola: not paid to the student; awarded as funding for educational materials for the school.

1. Festival Mission

ARANIFF – Vielha International Independent Film Festival is an international independent film festival held in Vielha, Val d’Aran, dedicated to independent cinema, emerging filmmakers, creative freedom and cultural diversity.


2. Eligible Works

Only completed works produced between 2025 and 2027 will be accepted.
International Independent Feature Film: over 60 minutes.
Spanish National Independent Feature Film: over 60 minutes.
International Short Film: minimum 3 and maximum 20 minutes.
Spanish National Short Film: minimum 3 and maximum 20 minutes.
ARANIFF Escola: short films made by students from the local educational institution, 1 to 5 minutes in length, by direct invitation and out of competition.


3. Categories and Format

Fiction works will be accepted. Documentaries, experimental works and projects in development will not be accepted. Trailers, works in progress and unfinished works are not eligible.


4. Year of Production

Works must have been produced between 2025 and 2027.


5. Premiere Status

No premiere requirement applies. Works may have participated in other festivals or may have been commercially released.


6. languages and subtitles

Films spoken in Spanish, Catalan, Aranese or Occitan do not require subtitles. Films in any other language must have Spanish or english subtitles. subtitles will be mandatory for screenings whenever applicable.


7. Nationality and Co-productions

SPANISH NATIONAL FEATURE FILM / SHORT FILM
A work will be considered Spanish when:
the main production company is Spanish, or
the director holds Spanish nationality or resides in Spain, or
the work was predominantly produced in Spain.
INTERNATIONAL FEATURE FILM / SHORT FILM
A work will be considered international when:
the main production company is foreign, or
the director is a foreign national, or
the work was predominantly produced outside Spain.
CO-PRODUCTIONS
In the case of co-productions between Spain and other countries, the organization will determine the section in which the work competes based on:
majority country of production
nationality of the main production company
nationality or residence of the director
the festival's programming interests


8. Submission deadlines

Early: October 31, 2026 · Regular: December 31, 2026 · Late: January 31, 2027.


9. Platforms and Fees

Submissions will be made through Festhome, at the participant's choice. The applicable fee will be the fee indicated on the platform at the time of submission. ARANIFF Escola will be free of charge, by direct invitation and out of competition.


10. Selection

The selection committee will determine the Official Selection. Submission does not guarantee selection. Notification will be sent by February 7, 2027.


11. Official Selection

The first edition will feature 9 feature films (5 international and 4 Spanish), 16 short films (10 international and 6 Spanish) and 12 ARANIFF Escola works. The program may also include an opening film, a closing film, a special screening and three out-of-competition mountain/ski cinema sessions.


12. Required Materials

Selected works must provide a DCP or high-quality ProRes file, trailer, poster, three film stills, complete technical and cast/crew credits, and synopsis.


13. Screening Format

Materials must be delivered as a DCP or high-quality digital file, such as ProRes, H.264 or H.265, according to the specifications communicated by the organization.


14. Withdrawal

Once the selection has been officially confirmed, the film may not be withdrawn except in cases of force majeure accepted by the organization.


15. Fees, Travel and Accommodation

ARANIFF will not pay screening fees. Travel and accommodation expenses will generally be the responsibility of the filmmaker or representative. The organization may offer invitations, accreditations, hospitality, partial support and discounts through official partners, subject to availability.


16. Internet Availability

Works available on paid or controlled-access platforms will be eligible. Works freely available on the Internet will not be eligible.


17. Jury

The official competition will be evaluated by a three-member jury appointed by the organization.

20. Rights and Promotion

The participant declares that they hold all necessary rights and authorizations. Selected films authorize ARANIFF to use the title, synopsis, poster, stills, trailer and brief excerpts for promotional, press, website, social media and archival purposes.


21. Acceptance of the Regulations

Submission implies acceptance of these regulations. The organization may interpret and apply the regulations, make reasonable programming adjustments and resolve unforeseen circumstances in the best interests of the festival.


2. Final Provision

The program, selected works, screening schedules and invited participants may be subject to reasonable changes for organizational, technical or force majeure reasons.
