41st MOSTRA DE VALÈNCIA-MEDITERRANEAN FILM FESTIVAL
INTRODUCTION
Mostra de València – Cinema del Mediterrani is an international film festival promoted by the City Council of Valencia, Spain, with the aim of showcasing and promoting cinema from the Mediterranean basin as a geographical and cultural reference framework. The festival is accredited by FIAPF as a specialized film festival.
PURPOSE
The purpose of this call is to open submissions for films wishing to compete in the Official Section, La Cabina, and Xaloc sections of the 41st edition of Mostra de València – Cinema del Mediterrani, to be held from November 3rd to November 15th, 2026, in the city of Valencia, provided they meet the requirements established in this call and its regulations.

AWARDS WITH ECONOMIC ENDOWMENT
The films selected through this call to participate in the competitive sections may be eligible for the following cash awards, funded under budget line 2026/BPA600000/334/489.01 “Other current transfers”, in the amounts detailed below:
-Golden Palm (Production Award): €30,000
-Golden Palm Spanish Distribution Award: €15,000
-Silver Palm / Special Jury Prize: €20,000
-La Cabina Award: €5,000
-La Cabina Spanish Distribution Award: €5,000
-Audience Award “Ciutat de València” (Xaloc): €10,000
The amounts of the awards shall be subject to the tax withholdings established by the applicable legislation at the time of payment, and such withholdings shall, in all cases, be deemed included within the total amount of the award. The festival organization shall act exclusively as a withholding agent in compliance with Spanish tax regulations, and shall pay the withheld amounts in full to the Spanish Public Treasury.
For these purposes, the provisions of the Double Taxation Agreements signed by Spain shall apply. The final tax rate and the effective withholding to be applied shall be determined by the tax residence of the beneficiary entity or individual, as well as by the specific clauses of the applicable international agreement in each jurisdiction.
The awards shall be compatible with other grants, subsidies, income or resources for the same purpose, whether originating from public administrations or private entities, at national level, within the European Union, or from international bodies.
• Production Awards: Ownership of the production awards shall correspond to the production entity (whether a natural or legal person) of the cinematographic work. In cases of co-production, payment shall be made to the entity that demonstrates the highest share of participation in the financing of the film.
• Distribution Awards: Ownership of the Golden Palm Distribution Award and the La Cabina Distribution Award shall correspond to the production entity of the awarded film. However, the actual payment of the award amount shall be made in favor of the entity (natural or legal person) responsible for the commercial distribution of the film in Spain.
o Assignment of collection rights agreement: In order to proceed with payment, the production entity and the distribution entity must enter into an assignment of collection rights agreement, formalized using the official template provided by Mostra de València – Cinema del Mediterrani.
o Technical conditions and specifications: Payment of the award shall be conditional upon compliance with the following requirements within a period of one year from the end of the festival, subject to documentary evidence of the expenses incurred and the work carried out.
Territorial scope: The commercial theatrical distribution must reach at least three Autonomous Communities within Spanish territory.
Revenue control: Only cinemas that comply with attendance control and revenue reporting obligations through the entities, in accordance with Order CUL/1772/2011 of June 21, shall be taken into account.
Prize Amount: The prize consists of a fixed sum that will be paid in full, regardless of whether the accredited distribution expenses are higher or lower than said amount.
Budget availability: Payment shall be subject to the existence of adequate and sufficient budgetary credit in the 2027 financial year.
o Formalization of the distribution contract: Films may have a distribution contract in Spain prior to submission, or may formalize such contract during or after their participation in the festival. If the awarded film does not have a distribution agreement at the time the award is granted, a non-extendable period of six months from the closing of the festival (April 15, 2027) shall be granted to formalize a contract that complies with the specifications set out herein.
o Expiry of the right: If the aforementioned contract is not formalized and duly evidenced within the six-month period, the distribution award shall become null and void. In such case, the allocated budget shall be released, and no right to compensation or indemnification of any kind shall arise in favor of the awarded entities.
LEGAL FRAMEWORK
Awards are considered subsidies and governed by the General Subsidies Ordinance of the Valencia City Council, Law 38/2003, and Royal Decree 887/2006.
OTHER AWARDS
Other awards that will be given among the films participating in the Official Section of the 41st Mostra de València-Cinema del Mediterrani, without monetary value, are:

Additional honorary recognitions may be granted.

3.- COMPETITIVE SECTIONS
OFFICIAL SECTION
Feature-length fiction and non-fiction films produced or co-produced in any of the countries within the scope of the festival, completed after January 1, 2025, and that have not been released in public cinemas, DVD, video, television or video-on-demand platforms in Spain, nor have participated in any Spanish film festival before or during the 41st Mostra de València – Cinema del Mediterrani, may apply to participate. In other words, they must guarantee their Spanish premiere at the festival.
From all the submitted films, the organization will select those that will compete in the Official Section. The result of this selection shall not be subject to appeal.
Only films from production companies that are not subject to any of the prohibitions for obtaining the status of beneficiary under Article 13 of Law 38/2003, of November 17, General Subsidies Law, and the Second Additional Provision of the General Subsidies Ordinance of the Valencia City Council and its public bodies, may participate in the Official Section of the 41st Mostra de València – Cinema del Mediterrani.
LA CABINA
Medium-length fiction, non-fiction and animation films (with a duration between 30 and 59 minutes), produced or co-produced in any of the countries within the scope of the festival, completed after January 1, 2025, and that have not been released in public cinemas, DVD, video, television or video-on-demand platforms in Spain, nor have participated in any Spanish film festival before or during the 41st Mostra de València – Cinema del Mediterrani, may apply to participate. In other words, they must guarantee their Spanish premiere at the festival.
From all the submitted films, the organization will select those that will compete in La Cabina. The result of this selection shall not be subject to appeal.
Only films from production companies that are not subject to any of the prohibitions for obtaining the status of beneficiary under Article 13 of Law 38/2003, of November 17, General Subsidies Law, and the Second Additional Provision of the General Subsidies Ordinance of the Valencia City Council and its public bodies, may participate in La Cabina of the 41st Mostra de València – Cinema del Mediterrani.
XALOC
Feature-length fiction, non-fiction and animation films produced or co-produced in any of the countries within the scope of the festival, completed after January 1, 2025, and that have not been released in public cinemas, DVD, video, television or video-on-demand platforms in the Valencian Community, nor have participated in any film festival within the Valencian territory before or during the 41st Mostra de València – Cinema del Mediterrani, may apply to participate. In other words, they must guarantee their Valencian premiere (in the Valencian Community) at the festival.
From all the submitted films, the organization will select those that will compete in Xaloc. The result of this selection shall not be subject to appeal.
Only films from production companies that are not subject to any of the prohibitions for obtaining the status of beneficiary under Article 13 of Law 38/2003, of November 17, General Subsidies Law, and the Second Additional Provision of the General Subsidies Ordinance of the Valencia City Council and its public bodies, may participate in Xaloc of the 41st Mostra de València – Cinema del Mediterrani.

4. SUBMISSION
Submissions for all competitive sections (Official Section, La Cabina, and Xaloc) must be made online via Festhome from the day following publication of the call extract in the Official Provincial Gazette until June 30, 2026.
Films must be submitted in their original version with english subtitles, except those originally in Spanish, Valencian, Catalan, or english.
Each film requires a separate submission.
Submission does not guarantee selection.
5. INVITED FILMS
The organization reserves the right to directly invite films to the competitive sections via formal invitation at any time before the festival. Invited films must formally accept the invitation.
6. awards WITH ECONOMIC ENDOWMENT
The films selected through this call to participate in the competitive sections may be eligible for the following cash awards, funded under budget line 2026/BPA600000/334/489.01 “Other current transfers”, in the amounts detailed below:

9. REQUIREMENTS FOR SELECTED FILMS
The screening of the films selected to participate in the competitive sections shall be carried out in 35mm or in digital format (Digital Cinema Package – DCP). Films that do not provide the necessary technical guarantees to ensure proper public screening quality shall be rejected.
The production and/or distribution companies of the selected films must submit the following materials to the organization prior to the holding of the festival:
• A copy of the film in its original version, in 35mm, DCP, or MP4 H264 format. Such copies shall remain in the possession of the organization until the conclusion of the last scheduled screening within the framework of the festival.
• A separate subtitle file (in .srt format) in english, in the case of films that are not in their original version in Spanish, Valencian, Catalan, or english.
• A dialogue list in the original language of the film, as well as in english, in the case of films that are not in their original version in Spanish, Valencian, Catalan, or english.
• Promotional materials, including:
o A trailer of the film in Full HD format. If no trailer is available, a 3-minute clip for promotional purposes shall be required.
o Three still images from the film in digital format and high resolution (300 dpi).
o A poster of the film in digital format and high resolution (300 dpi).
10. OBLIGATIONS OF SELECTED FILMS
The selection of the films that will compete in the Official Section, La Cabina, and Xaloc of the 41st Mostra de València – Cinema del Mediterrani shall remain confidential until the organization issues an official announcement, regardless of any communications that may have been maintained with the interested parties.
Once a film has been submitted and selected (and the invitation has been confirmed by the person who registered it), it may not be withdrawn from the competition and must continue to comply with the required conditions until the end of its participation in the festival.
The authors of the participating films grant permission to the organization to use the materials provided for the promotion of the festival.
The production and/or distribution companies of the participating films authorize the use of one or more excerpts from the work for dissemination for informational purposes in any media outlet.
11. OBLIGATIONS OF AWARDED FILMS
The production and/or distribution companies of the films awarded a cash prize at the 41st Mostra de València – Cinema del Mediterrani undertake to include a written reference to the award granted at the beginning of the copies of the work distributed for exhibition in public cinemas, other film festivals, DVD, Blu-ray, television, or video-on-demand platforms, as well as in all printed informational and promotional materials.
Such reference shall consist of a written mention of the award granted and a corporate image of Mostra de València – Cinema del Mediterrani, which shall be provided to them by the organization together with the corresponding usage guidelines.
For the purposes of processing payment of the cash awards, both the awarded production entities and, where applicable, the distribution entities to which collection rights have been assigned, must provide proof that they are up to date with their tax obligations with the Spanish State Tax Administration Agency (AEAT), their obligations with the Social Security system, as well as their tax obligations with the Municipal Treasury of the Valencia City Council.
For this purpose, and prior to the authorization of payment, the beneficiaries must sign a declaration of responsibility expressly authorizing the Valencia City Council to verify such compliance electronically with the relevant authorities.
In the event that the entity does not give its express consent to such verification, it must independently provide the administrative certificates proving that it is up to date with the aforementioned obligations, with a validity not exceeding three months.
12. JURY
To award the prizes, the organization will appoint the members of the professional juries for the competitive sections (Official Section, La Cabina). Each jury will consist of a minimum of three and a maximum of five professionals of recognized prestige in the cinematographic and cultural fields. Their curricular profiles will be made public on the official website www.lamostradevalencia.com prior to the start of the festival.
- Incompatibilities: Individuals with direct interests in the production, exhibition, or any other form of exploitation or participation in the films selected for competition may not serve on the jury.
The Audience Award “Ciutat de València” will be granted through spectator voting among the films selected in the Xaloc section. The results of the scrutiny will be published on the official website www.lamostradevalencia.com upon the conclusion of the event.
The decisions of the juries and the results of the audience vote shall be final and not subject to appeal. No prize with a financial endowment may be declared void or awarded ex aequo. Exceptions to the above are the distribution prizes for the Golden Palm and the La Cabina Award, which will be strictly governed by the conditions for contract formalization and assignment of collection stipulated in point 6 of this call.
13. ACCEPTANCE OF THE PROVISIONS OF THIS CALL AND ITS RULES
Participation in the 41st Mostra de València-Cinema del Mediterrani implies full acceptance and compliance with this call and its rules, the interpretation of which shall be the sole prerogative of the organization.
14. PUBLICATION OF THE CALL
The full text of the call for the 41st Mostra de València-Cinema del Mediterrani will be published in the National Subsidy Database, the Official Gazette of the Province of Valencia (Boletín Oficial de la Provincia de València), and on the Festhome platform, without prejudice to any additional publicity the organization may carry out for wider dissemination if deemed appropriate.
15. DATA PROTECTION
The data registered by participants will be collected and processed in accordance with the provisions of Organic Law 3/2018, of December 5, on the Protection of Personal Data and guarantee of digital rights. Rights of access, rectification, erasure, and objection may be exercised by formal request.
16. APPEALS
Against the present Resolution, which exhausts the administrative route, interested parties may file an optional appeal for reversal within one month before the body that issued the act, in accordance with articles 123 and 124 of Law 39/2015, of October 1, on the Common Administrative Procedure of Public Administrations; or directly file a contentious-administrative appeal within two months before the Contentious-Administrative Courts, in accordance with Law 29/1998, of July 13, regulating Contentious-Administrative Jurisdiction.

Xaloc is a warm, dry wind that blows from the south-east of the Mediterranean. Its name has roots in the Arabic ‘šarq’ (‘east’) and the ancient Greek ‘exalṓtēs’ (‘out of the sea’).
Xaloc Audience Award “Ciutat de València” (10.000€ Spanish distribution): Feature films and medium-length films, fiction, non-fiction and animation, produced or co-produced in any of the countries within the scope of the festival, provided they were created from 1st January 2025 onwards and have not yet been premièred in public cinemas in the Valencian Region, on DVD, video, television or video-on-demand platforms in Spain before or during the 41st Mostra de València-Cinema del Mediterrani.
Ciutat de València Audience Award will be awarded exclusively on the basis of audience votes and the prize money will go to the film's distributor in Spain.
