‘Mal del Cap, Naratives Mal Dites" is the name of the International Festival of Short Films and New Narratives that Mal del Cap, Cultura Mal Dita of Eivissa has been running since 2014.
This festival aims to be a meeting place and a place to generate ties between the participants and the citizens of Eivissa with the aim of consolidating itself as a space with the potential to forge encounters for audiovisual exhibition and creation.
‘Mal del Cap’ is an independent festival based on experimentation and the search to find new ways of narrating or expressing through the image, and to this end we are organising a short film competition to encourage the participation of citizens, especially the youngest members of the population.

Sebas Parra’ Award of the Official Short Film Competition Section to the best short film with social content awarded by the association La Guerrilla Comunicacional: 200 € and trophy.
Malalt’ Award of the Official Short Film Competition Section: € 100 and trophy.
Award to the best short film in Catalan of the Official Short Film Competition: 100 € and trophy.
Audience Award of the Official Competition Short Film Section: € 100 and trophy.

RULES
FIRST.
The cultural association Mal Del Cap, Cultura Mal Dita de Eivissa (hereinafter MdC), will hold a competition between 12 August and 12 September 2024, both inclusive, within the framework of the X International Short Film Festival ‘Mal del Cap’, aimed at all those video creators who wish to participate in it, and who register to participate in this competition by providing the videos, under the conditions detailed below. The X Festival Mal del Cap will take place in Eivissa between 23rd November and 30th November 2024.
SECOND.
‘Mal del Cap’ is the name of the International Festival of Short Films and New Narratives that Mal del Cap, Cultura Mal Dita of Eivissa is carrying out with the aim of promoting the production and dissemination of audiovisual works that are difficult to access commercially. This is not only a way of exhibiting works by emerging creators, but it will also be a competitive festival in which the work and creativity of the works will take precedence.
THIRD.
The participation of the cinematographic and audiovisual works that will make up the Festival's programme in its different sections will be chosen by the Festival Organisers and its Selection Committee made up of the MdC Board of Directors.
FOURTH
The Festival will consist of the following sections or sections:
Official Short Film Competition Section:
Fiction, documentary or animation short films in any digital production format may participate. The works will be presented in digital format with a minimum quality of 720X576 and H.264 codec. They must be sent through the collaborating platforms and must not exceed 17 minutes in length and must have been produced after 1 January 2023.
Youth Short Film Competition Section: Short films aimed at young audiences that promote values related to solidarity, integration, drug prevention, interculturality, or any topic of interest to young people that promotes social values related to the association. The works will be presented in digital format with a minimum quality of 720X576 and H.264 codec. And they will be sent through the collaborating platforms, not exceeding 15 minutes in length and having been produced after 1 January 2023.
Sebas Parra' Award: The short films with social content will be part of the “Sebas Parra Award” given by the association “La Guerrilla Comunicacional” of Blanes, an entity twinned with the association Mal del cap and which organises the annual Mostra Mal del Cap in Girona where a selection of short films with this type of theme will be screened during the first quarter of 2025.
Participation in this competition implies the acceptance of the possible exhibition of all the works received at the Mostra Mal del Cap in Girona, regardless of whether they are exhibited in Ibiza or not. The works will be presented in digital format with a minimum quality of 720X576 and H.264 codec and will be sent through the collaborating platforms, not exceeding 17 minutes in length and having been produced after the 1st of January 2023.
FIFTH
The Festival Organisation will appoint the members of the Jury for the Official Competition Short Film Section, which will be made up of a minimum of five members. They will be made up of people who have no connection with the films presented.
The jury of the ‘Sebas Parra’ award will be the members of the Asociación La Guerrilla Comunicacional.
The deliberations of the Jury will be secret, adopting their decisions by simple majority.
The audience award of the official section will be chosen by the audience of each of the festival's short film screenings.
Any possible conflict of operation not foreseen in these regulations will be resolved by the Festival Management.
For the Youth Section of Short Films in Competition, the jury will be the minors attending the screenings by popular vote.
The decision of all the juries will be final.
SIXTH
The design of this list of awards in sections and contents may be subject to change or modification at the discretion of the Organisation, the latest updated version being the one published on the Festival's official website. Any of the prizes may be declared void if the short films received do not meet the required quality standards.
SEVENTH
In order to participate in the festival, the following conditions must be respected and proceed as indicated:
The works participating in the Festival will be presented in Spanish or Catalan. Films whose original version is in another language must have embedded subtitles in Spanish or Catalan.
Registration for the competition will be done through the platforms set up for this purpose and the works will be sent for evaluation between 12 August and 12 September 2024.
Short films selected by the jury to be screened must be sent before 10 November 2024.
The competition is open to individual or collective filmmakers from all over the world.
Short fiction, documentary or animation films in any digital production format are eligible.
Those works that do not technically guarantee a correct projection, those that do not attach the registration form, are incomplete or contain incorrect information will be rejected.
Audiovisual support for pre-selection: The works will be submitted in digital format with a minimum quality of 720X576 and H.264 codec and a maximum duration of 17 minutes for the official section and Sebas Parra award and 15 for the youth section. They will be sent through any of the associated platforms.
Notification of admission: No later than 1 November 2024, the Festival Organisers will notify those interested of their participation in the different sections of the Festival.
The Festival will not pay screening fees for films participating in the competition sections.
The invitation of each film selected by the Festival will be strictly confidential between the Festival Management and the producers or representatives of the invited film until the Festival decides to officially announce it.
The subtitling of the copy will be the responsibility of the producers or representatives of the film.
All expenses, without exception, generated by the sending of the short films or the participation in the competition will be borne by the entity or person registering the film.
Press and publicity material: Together with the application form, all participating works must send the following material: at least 2 photographs of different scenes from the film, and any other diverse informative and promotional material for the press and the public, as well as any other documentation about the film that will enrich the knowledge and dissemination of the film. It is essential that this material be in the possession of the Festival Organisation before 1st November 2024.
The producers and directors of the short films cede the exhibition rights within the Festival and authorise, by registering, all promotional actions of the authors and the Festival that may involve the total or partial reproduction of their works submitted to the competition or of the photographs, stills or posters sent, for their diffusion before or after the jury has issued its decision, as well as in the cultural circuits in which MdC participates, or any of the organisers of the festival and more specifically in the Mostra Mal del Cap de Giron, after the festival in which a selection of the short films with a social theme is exhibited within the context of the ‘Sebas Parra Award’: a selection of the best short films with a social theme, whether or not they have been selected for the Ibiza festival.
The Festival reserves the right to make a digital copy of the selected works, guaranteeing, in any case, the copyright and intellectual property rights of the same, reserving the rights of exhibition during the X Festival Mal del Cap and in the Mostra Mal del Cap de Girona or in different Cultural Circuits of Ibiza, prior communication to the filmmakers.
EIGHTH
The Festival Management may withdraw at any time any film that does not comply with any of the rules of these regulations.
Likewise, any falsification of production data may lead to the withdrawal of the film from the competition sections.
The Festival Organisers will establish the order and date of screening of each film.
NINTH
The organisers reserve the right to add or modify the prizes in each of the categories.
TENTH
Participation implies full acceptance of these Regulations.
In case of conflict in the interpretation of any article of these regulations or in those aspects not included in them, the interpretation and criteria of the Festival Management will be decisive.
