Seoul Metro International subway Film Festival(SMIFF) with cooperation of Shinhancard introduces various world-wide extreme-short films on Seoul and Barcelona subway monitors and aims to contribute in making cosmopolitan cultural environment where anyone can enjoy movies in various places beyond cinemas.

4. Submission Guidelines
4-1. Submission Date: June 15th(Wed) - August 5th(Fri), 2022
4-2. Eligibility
International Competition
• Any subject and genre.
• Less than 90 seconds in length.
• Films should be suitable for public showing.
• Films could be understood without sound and dialogues as it would be screened in subways. (* But you can use sound for the online and theater screening.)
• No limit to the year of production.
ESGSpecial Competition
• Films should be related with ESG (Environmental Social Governance)
• Less than 180 seconds in length.
• Films should be suitable for public showing.
• Films could be understood without sound and dialogues as it would be screened in subways. (* But you can use sound for the online and theater screening.)
• No limit to the year of production.
• It is possible to submit the same film for international competition
(*However, the condition of entry for international competition, 'within 90 seconds of screening time', applies to the same film as well)
※ Selected films of International Competition and ESG Special Competition will only be screened online, subway stations, SMIFF screens and in the theaters.
4-3. How to Submit
Register a preview copy(not exceeding 2GB) at Festhome(www.festhome.com)
※ We DO NOT ACCEPT registration by post mail and any offline registration in any case.
※ Preview film has to offer english subtitles if the dialogue is not in english.
※ Preview film must be the same version as the screening file to be screened at the festival.
※ All expenses regarding entries must be paid by the submitter.
5. Selection
5-1. Nomination Announcement: August 25th(Thu), 2022
Entries for the competition section will be reviewed by SMIFF preliminary juries from which the final selections will be made. Selection results will be posted on the SMIFF official website and the individuals (the finalists only) will be notified via e-mail. Nominated work cannot be canceled arbitrarily.
5-2. For Screening
For films chosen to be screened, a screening file and all necessary materials requested by SMIFF must be submitted. Details regarding submitting final films will be sent to finalists individually.
▶ Screening file format
- SMIFF will screen films in file format in theaters, so the preferred format is .mov (ProRes 422) or .mp4 (H.264) Bitrate Settings 100000Kbps upper file. And file size is 16:9(Screen ratio) and full HD (1920X1080).
- All screening films should have english subtitles. SMIFF has the right to reject screening films that are without english subtitles.

- english dialogue list (Films with english subtitles as well. Time code is necessary.)
- Available publicity material such as press release or posters
※ The terms regarding a screening file and other materials can be subjected to change.
※ Submitted materials will be used in making the SMIFF catalog and promotion materials and will not be returned.
6. awards
6-1. Final Judging
Except for the ESG Special Competition, The award winners of the International Competition will be chosen through an online vote at the festival website(www.smiff.kr) and the Shinhan Play Application from September 28th(Wed) to October 18th(Tue) GMT+9 24:00
7. Festival Screening
7-1. SMIFF will decide the screening dates, times and locations (including subway screenings, indoor/outdoor theater screenings, mobile and online screenings.)
7-2. Films can be screened via media (e.g. TV, new medias, etc) under the name of SMIFF on condition that SMIFF received a prior approval from the copyright holder.
8. Publicity
8-1. All submitted documents and materials would be used to publish the catalog, the website and other promotion materials.
8-2. The excerpts from the submitted films which are selected as finalists can be used for the festival publicity.
8-3. The range of publicity includes media (e.g. Newspapers, broadcastings, magazines, new medias, etc), social media and other ways that are generally used to promote the film festival.
9. Archive
9-1. The films will be archived in order to screen the films for the non-profit and educational purposes, after this festival.
9-2. If the copyright holder does not agree, SMIFF will not keep the film in the archive.
10. Post-Festival Screening
10-1. SMIFF may re-screen awarded films after the festival at the website of SMIFF.
10-2. Awarded films can be re-screened at Seoul Metro subway lines, its website, other places managed by Seoul Metro and the official Youtube of ShinhanCard. SMIFF would get a permission from the copyright holder when films are created as derivative works.
10-3. Films and materials can be used via media (e.g. TV, new medias, etc) under the name of SMIFF on condition that SMIFF received a prior approval from the copyright holder.
10-4. Films can be screened at overseas film festivals or culture centers under the name of SMIFF on condition that SMIFF received prior approval from the copyright holder.
11. Others
11-1. Submitters must clear all copyright issues before the screening at the film festival. SMIFF will not individually check on this and will not take any responsibility for any issues regarding copyright
11-2. Contact information (ex. E-mail address, phone number) should be specified in a registration to receive a notification such as selection result. SMIFF will not take any responsibility for any issues because of inaccurate information.
12. Agreement
12-1. The regulations above shall take effect from the time the films are submitted.
12-2. When anything written in the submission process is found to be untrue, SMIFF reserves the right to cancel the nomination or disqualify the entry.
