FECIR - Rengo International Film Festival has twenty years of history, offering filmmakers from Chile, Latin America, and around the world a space for the dissemination, exhibition, and exchange of experiences and ideas. It promotes the creation of high artistic quality in cinema and audiovisual arts in all its forms, providing the commune of Rengo, the Sixth Region, and the country with a space for the appreciation, reflection, creation, training, and enjoyment of the art of cinema.
RENGO comes from the Mapudungun word “Renkü,” which translates to “Invincible, brave among the brave.”

REGULATIONS – 21st RENGO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL 2025
RULES FOR PARTICIPATION IN THE OFFICIAL CATEGORIES OF FECIR 2025
1. FESTIVAL DATES AND LOCATIONS:
The 21st edition of the Rengo International Film Festival will be held from November 24 to 29, 2025. The festival will take place in the city of Rengo, with associated venues in Requínoa, Quinta de Tilcoco, Rancagua, Chimbarongo, Chépica, and San Vicente de Tagua Tagua, all located in the Libertador General Bernardo O'Higgins Region of Chile. The program will include both in-person and online activities.
2. OBJECTIVES:
With over two decades of history, the Rengo International Film Festival (FECIR) offers filmmakers from Chile, Latin America, and around the world a platform for showcasing, exhibiting, and exchanging cinematic ideas and experiences. The festival aims to promote high-quality artistic cinematic and audiovisual creation in all its forms, fostering appreciation, reflection, education, and enjoyment of cinema in Rengo, the O'Higgins Region, and across Chile.
3. ORGANIZERS:
The 21st edition of the Rengo International Film Festival 2025 is organized by Fundación Conecta Cultura and Sala Cero Rengo, with the support of the Municipality of Rengo and other collaborating institutions.
4. OFFICIAL CATEGORIES OF FECIR 2025:
All submitted works must be spoken or dubbed in Spanish or include Spanish subtitles. Accessibility features such as audio descriptions, sign language interpretation, or other inclusive tools will be especially valued to ensure a broader audience experience.
4.1 INTERNATIONAL FEATURE FILM COMPETITION (FICTION)
Feature-length fiction films up to 150 minutes, including credits, are eligible. Films may be produced in any country, format, or medium, from 2024 onwards. Preference will be given to Chilean premieres and works of independent and high artistic quality.
A maximum of six films will be selected for this category.
4.2 INTERNATIONAL SHORT FILM COMPETITION (FICTION)
Short fiction films up to 30 minutes, including credits, are accepted. Open to films produced in any country, format, or medium from 2024 onwards. Priority will be given to Chilean premieres and to independent, artistically accomplished works.
A maximum of ten films will be selected.
4.3 INTERNATIONAL CHILDREN’S ANIMATION COMPETITION
Open to animation films intended exclusively for a child audience, up to 30 minutes long, including credits. Any animation technique is accepted (stop motion, traditional 2D, cut-out, 3D, mixed media, etc.). Eligible films must have been produced from 2024 onwards, in any format or country.
Preference will be given to Chilean premieres and independent, high-quality works.
Films in this category must be spoken or dubbed in Spanish if they contain dialogue in another language.
A maximum of ten films will be selected.
4.4 INTERNATIONAL SHORT FILM COMPETITION – ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
Open to emerging creators, film students, graduates, independent filmmakers, and professionals. Short films partially or entirely created using AI tools (fiction/documentary/experimental/etc.) are eligible, with a maximum duration of 10 minutes including credits.
Works must have been produced from 2024 onwards, in any country. Chilean premieres will be prioritized.
A maximum of five films will be selected.
4.5 INTERNATIONAL VIDEODANCE COMPETITION
Open to directors, film students, graduates, and independent filmmakers linked to dance. Short videodance films up to 30 minutes in duration are accepted. Works must have been produced from 2024 onwards, in any country or format. Preference will be given to Chilean premieres.
A maximum of ten films will be selected.
4.6 INTERNATIONAL DOCUMENTARY SHORT FILM COMPETITION
Open to filmmakers, producers, creators, students, graduates, independent filmmakers, and audiovisual professionals. Documentary short films up to 30 minutes long, including credits, are eligible. Films may be from any country or format and must have been produced from 2024 onwards. Chilean premieres and independent, high-quality works will be especially valued.
A maximum of ten films will be selected.
4.7 NATIONAL DOCUMENTARY COMPETITION
This category aims to highlight outstanding Chilean documentaries in all their forms and perspectives. Films up to 120 minutes in length (medium or feature-length), produced from 2024 onwards, in any format, are eligible. Preference will be given to Chilean premieres.
A maximum of ten films will be selected.
4.8 NATIONAL COMPETITION – FILMS DIRECTED BY WOMEN
A national competition for fiction short films directed exclusively by women. Open to experienced filmmakers, emerging directors, students, graduates, and audiovisual professionals. Films must be up to 30 minutes long (credits included) and produced from 2024 onwards.
Preference will be given to Chilean premieres.
A maximum of ten films will be selected.
Priority will be given to works with a gender perspective.
Priority will also be given to productions from the O’Higgins Region and other regions outside the Santiago Metropolitan Area.
4.9 NATIONAL COMPETITION – “REGIONAL PRODUCTION” SHORT FILMS
Open to fiction short films of up to 20 minutes produced in Chilean regions other than the Santiago Metropolitan Region, from 2024 onwards. Preference will be given to Chilean premieres.
Only filmmakers residing outside the Metropolitan Region may apply.
At least two films from the O’Higgins Region will be selected whenever possible.
A maximum of ten films will be selected.
5. GENERAL CONDITIONS FOR PARTICIPATION
5.1 Interested participants must complete the registration form available on the official platforms. Selected films will be included in the official program and may be screened at regional or national venues during the festival dates: November 24–29, 2025.
5.2 Only films produced from January 2024 onwards are eligible. Films previously submitted to FECIR (for either preselection or official selection) will not be accepted.
5.3 FECIR may use excerpts for promotional purposes after the Official Selection 2025:
– Up to 2 minutes for feature films (75–150 min)
– Up to 1 minute for shorts/medium-length films over 10 min
– Up to 30 seconds for shorts under 10 min
Photographs (stills) may also be used. FECIR may publish this material on its website, social media, or other promotional platforms. If not provided by the producer, FECIR reserves the right to extract such material directly from the film.
5.4 FECIR may continue using excerpts (up to 2 minutes) and stills of winning or jury-awarded films for promotional purposes after the festival.
5.5 SUBMISSION COPIES

6. JURY
The jury for the categories: International Feature Fiction, International Fiction Short, International Videodance, AI Shorts, International Documentary Short, National Documentary, Women Directors, and Regional Production will be composed of prominent figures from the audiovisual, arts, and cultural sectors at local, regional, national, and international levels.
Individuals directly involved in the competing films may not serve on the jury.
In the International Children’s Animation category, the jury will consist of a children's audience who will vote electronically or in person.
A single film may not win more than three awards in its category.
THE JURY’S DECISION IS FINAL AND CANNOT BE APPEALED.
7. FILM REGISTRATION
7.1 Films that do not meet the general conditions and preselection criteria will not be accepted.
7.2 Films with involvement from members of the
festival’s organizing team as director, producer, or distributor are not eligible.
7.3 Any unlisted situation will be resolved by the Festival’s Organizing Committee.
7.4 Submission of a film implies full acceptance of these regulations, including non-commercial screenings during and after the festival. Films will become part of the FECIR Cinematheque archive.
7.5 FECIR does not pay screening fees for films in competition, as each film competes for monetary and/or in-kind prizes from partners. Films will be shown exclusively during the festival dates, November 24–29, 2025.
7.6 By submitting a film and being selected, the participant agrees not to withdraw the film and grants screening rights exclusively for FECIR 2025 in November. After the festival, new agreements may be made with winners or selected participants in special showcases (2025–2026).
7.7 Winners must include the phrase “21st Rengo International Film Festival 2025 Award” or the corresponding award laurel in promotional material, press releases, and film credits.
8. SUBMISSION deadline AND DELIVERY
8.1 All submission materials must be received no later than October 12, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. (Chile Time).
8.2 The list of selected films for the Official Competition will be published on social media and the official website www.fecir.cl, and participants will be notified by phone and/or email by the end of October 2025.
8.3 FECIR is not legally responsible for the unauthorized use of music, images, text, or other content within submitted films. All rights and licensing issues are the sole responsibility of the filmmaker or producer submitting the work.
