The LA MIRADA TABÚ film festival wants to motivate artists and creators to show their view of the “taboo” concept, which is broad and diverse, encompassing from the dreams, the unconscious, the mental worlds and the ghosts that populate them , the mystery, the magic, even the untold reality, the unsaid, "the clothes hanging", in the workplace, emotional, family, vital ... from a vision as polyhedral as human thought is: casual, humorous, dramatic, dreamlike ... always from respect for all ways of thinking and from creativity.

LA MIRADA TABÚ launches an invitation to bring to light the personal and non-transferable world of each creator, which, as we have been able to verify throughout the history of art and cinema, through great names in world cinematography such as Luis Buñuel , Carlos Saura, Stanley Kubrick, Federico Fellini, Michelangelo Antonioni, David Lynch, Terrence Malick, Christopher Nolan, Julio Medem, Alejandro Amenábar ... connect with the deepest, most unknown and most ungraspable imaginary of viewers.

The International Festival of Short Films on the Elderly (FICMA) was born within the Federation of Associations of the Elderly of Salamanca (FAMASA) with the aim of providing a cultural offer that contributes to improving the quality of life of the elderly by bringing them closer to a full citizenship and offering the cultural heritage of which they are protagonists. It is celebrated every year between September and October since 2016 in the city of Salamanca, being a meeting of intergenerational culture

The Festival poses as a place of debate and discourse for questions such as: How has cinema treated old age? How does it reflect the role of the elderly in the family, sentimental, emotional and social relationships, the process of deterioration and the proximity of death, in a society where the average age of the population is increasingly high? Does the influence of cinema negatively or positively affect the stereotypes and beliefs that society generates about the elderly and the elderly? Do you treat men in the same way as women?

The old age is heterogeneous, as much as older adults exist in the world and this is what aims to demonstrate this cinematographic event.

OBJECTIVES
The goal of FICMA is to get Salamanca people to come to the cinema from the perspective of people over 65 and / or with dependence. Thus, it is an excellent opportunity to offer a festival of cinema to the city and an active and positive vision of this sector of the population. The goal of the festival is for society to take a vision that highlights the positive aspects of old age and reinforces intergenerational relations.

Lucca Film Festival and Europa Cinema is an annual event that celebrates and promotes cinematographic culture. Through screenings, exhibitions, conferences and performances, the Festival has been able to captivate an ever-increasing audience with a program that ranges from experimental to mainstream films. Through the years, Lucca Film Festival and Europa Cinema has carved out a niche for itself, standing apart from the many other festivals thanks to its bold yet carefully studied programming. Over the years, great names of international filmmakers and well-known celebrities have attended Lucca Film Festival and Europa Cinema as invited guests; David Lynch, Oliver Stone, Jeremy Irons, Willem Dafoe, George Romero, Terry Gilliam, William Friedkin, Alfonso Cuarón, John Boorman and Peter Greenaway, Martin Freeman just to name a few. At the same time, the Festival has offered retrospectives of “old” glories while unearthing new talents. To top it all off, breathtaking Lucca and beautiful Viareggio serve as a stunning backdrop to an event that has now firmly established itself, becoming a highly anticipated and not-to-be-missed appointment in Italy and in Europe: the Lucca Film Festival and Europa Cinema.

The 2020 will be the 5th edition of the Lucca Film Festival and Europa Cinema International Feature Film Competition. In the previous editions important personalities of cinema like Cristi Puiu, Rutger Hauer and Philip Groening had been part of the international jury.

The films shown during this competition are Italian premieres and last edition was won by "Dollhouse: The Eradication of Female Subjectivity From American Popular Culture" by American filmmaker Nicole Brending.

The 2020 edition of Lucca Film Festival and Europa Cinema (because of the Covid-19) will be held from September 25 to October 4. The first call for entries has already been published and it is now possible to apply for the 2020 international feature competition.

Since its creation, the festival has always been committed to promoting contemporary films. Therefore, directors from all over the world can submit their films to the competitive section of the festival through the dedicated call for entries.

There are three categories: Best feature film prize (3000€), awarded by a jury of renowned guests from both the cinematographic and academic worlds, Best feature film – university jury prize (awarded by an university jury) and Best feature film – popular jury prize.
For those who are interested in this competition, the last day for submissions is August 10 2020, until midnight.

There are no limitations to the genre or topic of the films. The only requirements are the following: the films must be at least 60 minutes long and must have been produced in 2019. Moreover, they must be Italian premieres, so they cannot have been presented in any other Italian festival, shown on any online open platform or distributed in any other way in Italy.

For the 15th year in a row, it will take place the historic short films competition, whose winner will receive a 500€ prize. Every year, the selection committee of this competition receives more than 300 films to evaluate. Among the directors who took part in earlier editions, there are celebrities like Adan Jodorowsky, son of the famous Chilean filmmaker.
Even though the “free experimentation” is the fil rouge of this year's edition, the films have no limitations in genre and topic. The only requirement is that they cannot last more than 29 minutes. For the short films competition, the last day for submissions is August 10 2020, until midnight.

A list of the selected films will be published on the festival’s website before August 31 2020. During the festival the films will be shown in the cinemas taking part in the event.

Moreover, it has been reconfirmed the participation of the People's Jury and the University Students Jury for the feature competition.

The Lucca Film Festival and Europa Cinema, coordinated by Nicola Borrelli, is one of the key events organized and sponsored by the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Lucca.

The Warsaw Film Festival opens its calls for entries in Festhome!

Logo of Festhome
Published: 15 May 2020

This time we would like to give a warm welcome to Festhome to one of the most important festivals in the world: the Warsaw International Film Festival, prestigious festival with 35 plus years of history that takes place since 1985, and which in 2009 joined the elite group of events recognized by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations as international film festivals - next to Cannes, Venice, Berlin, Locarno, San Sebastian, Tokyo, Moscow or Mar del Plata, among others.

Many qualities could be pointed out in the Warsaw IFF, but the main one may be the prestige its film programming has achieved: short and feature films of all kinds, categories and genres may find a place in the festival as long as their quality makes them worthy of it. About that, even though the festival screens films from every corner of the earth, it pays some particular attention to films from Poland and eastern Europe, and it is so not only in the screening schedule, but also in the professional events, the market, which is organised in Warsaw and in some occasions, through a network of international partnerships, in Moscow and Beijing as well.

The above mentioned international partnerships, such as the agency for the mutual promotion of Chinese and Eastern Europe films run with the Beijing based distribution company Film factory, are among the most stimulating initiatives developed by the festival. As proof of the international recognition gained by the festival, it is also a qualifying festival for the Oscar Awards®! given by the Hollywood Academy.

Warsaw International Film Festival's 36th edition, which will take place from October 9th through 18th, 2020, will also give out 11000 € in cash awards. Its call for entries will be open in Festhome until July, 31st, and it is a call for entries that no filmmaker should miss.

Cinema is an art form that needs to be simultaneously nourished and challenged and ÉCU - The European Independent Film Festival provides the perfect arena for indie filmmakers to express authentic cinematic storytelling in the most compelling ways possible. As one the World’s truly stand out independent film festivals, ÉCU embraces innovation and creativity and allows directors in competition to showcase their films to audiences who appreciate and love independent cinema. Filmmakers who are selected into ÉCU’s Official Selection join an active community of creatives who continually push the boundaries of indie cinema.

'I'm so grateful and honoured... Your festival is an amazing opportunity to celebrate independent films and filmmakers' - Iris Zaki, director of 'WOMEN IN SINK', the winner of the Best European Independent Documentary 2016.

"I had such a great time at the festivals. Really, amazing films, interesting filmmakers. It was an inspirational visit for me. Thanks to you all for your enthusiastic and truly supportive organization! You're awesome!"

- Martijn Winkler, director of #tagged, winner of Best Director award at ÉCU 2018

Since its inception in 2006 ÉCU has forged a path for independent film and the scope of its presence has grown to a global scale with the festival often being referenced as the European equivalent of Sundance, an honour that we don’t take lightly.

Spring is not only a fabulous time for Paris but an exciting time for ÉCU because that is when we showcase roughly around 100 of the World’s very best independent films. Although ÉCU emphasises European talent, it also recognises the genius of international filmmakers with several categories allocated to non-European films.

The next ÉCU, the 16th edition, will take place on the 9th, 10th and 11th of April, 2021 in Paris, France.

ÉCU isn’t just all about screening an amazing slate of films over its three-day event in Paris in April. There are also professional workshops led by experts in the industry, Q&A’s held with the attending filmmakers after every screening session and a chance to network with fellow filmmakers, producers, agents, industry representatives, prospective film buyers and, of course, the cinema-loving public. At ÉCU, there is a continual dialogue celebrating and critiquing the world’s best indie cinema of today.

Though ÉCU’s main event IS the three-day festival in Paris each spring, there is even more! Thanks to our over 50 partner festivals, partner organizations, film centres and film commissions, ÉCU’s goes on an annual world tour called ÉCU-On-The-Road, which gives award-winning films (as well as many of the Official Selection films) the opportunity to have their films screened to a broader, global audience. ÉCU-On-The-Road showcased films in over 80 countries around the globe in 2016 - 2019 at special ÉCU mini-festivals, partner festivals, cultural institutions and film schools, including an amazing seven day special festival in São Paulo, Brazil. The event was made possible through the support of Caixa Cultural, São Paulo and was a huge success. ÉCU also held special events in Berlin (Germany), Cannes (France) and was part of festivals in Lebanon, Italy, Russia, USA, Romania, Austria, Denmark and other countries. This gives ÉCU filmmakers great exposure to audiences that they may never have reached.

Since 2006, ÉCU has helped the careers of literally hundreds of independent filmmakers, actors, DPs, editors, screenwriters and is honoured to be firmly established as one of the World’s eminent indie film festivals.

Above all, we are proud to be a filmmakers’ festival!
