Welcome to the 2023 CMCS Wall of Fame Film Festival!

Launched in 2013 in Toronto, the Centre for Media and Celebrity Studies (CMCS) is now proudly sponsoring the Wall of Fame - an international film festival in Lisbon, Portugal, that helps filmmakers screen unique moving images often overlooked in the tabloid politics of fame. In doing so, the CMCS Wall of Fame film festival bridges gaps between film stars and independent filmmakers, supportive of inspirational stories and social issues for both human and non-human animal ethics. CMCS has been featured for its views on celebrities in a wide range of media, including CTV, CBC National News, Global News, the Telegraph, VICE, Flare, Chatelaine, SUN Media, Yahoo! Entertainment, and many more. As the world’s first celebrity expert to be on tabloids, CMCS will offer honour, exposure, and connect unique film artists as role models for human rights and non-human animal ethics in celebrity culture. The festival will offer an additional screening to the first-runner-up award winner as a part of the annual Samita Nandy Productions Award and Hollywood’s Stage 32 (partnered with Netflix) webinar to the CMCS Wall of Fame best film award winner.

The Arab Film Festival Zurich is organized every two years by the association IAFFZ . The next festival will take place from 02.04.2025 until 06.04.2025.

The focus is on films by Arab filmmakers that could not find their way to “commercial” cinema. The program includes short and full-length feature, documentary, animation and experimental films exploring social, cultural and political issues. Discussions with the invited filmmakers also offer the audience the opportunity to discuss films and topics further.

Please note that we can only accept movies from or about the Arab world. We define the Arab world in cultural terms. Unfortunately, we cannot accept movies from or about Iran or Turkey, except if they explicitly deal with issues related to the Arab world as defined above.

The Arab Film Festival Zurich is a place of encounters and dialogue between cultures. Through its internationally understandable language, film serves as a means of communication and understanding, and so the festival should make a contribution to a differentiated analysis of the Arab cultural area beyond media coverage.

The first edition of the festival in 2012 was well received by the audience and the media. Every two years, the Arab Film Festival Zurich presents a representative selection of outstanding current international films from various Arab countries.

The festival team consists of honorary board members of the association IAFFZ and the volunteers who share a great interest in film and in the Arab culture. The program is compiled by Aida Schläpfer Al-Hassani (filmmaker, president of the association IAFFZ and co-director of AFFZ) and Michel Bodmer (co-director of AFFZ).

The TRAVEL FilmFest (TRAFF) international film festival collects the best travel films from around the world, which were created both by professionals and by enthusiasts, and helps to get them across to the audience.

Travels can be different: with money or without it, lasting for one day or for a couple of years, by buses and trains, by cars and motorcycles, by bicycles and by foot, in your neighbourhood or to the opposite end of the Earth, alone or as a group, with prefabricated route and spontaneous, independent or organized, "all-inclusive" or limited. This list can go to infinity.

All types of travel have only one thing in common - they are never boring.

Nowadays any traveller takes along his photo or video camera, his smartphone. There is nothing easier than uploading a non-processed travel video to the Internet. As a result, the web is stuffed with "trash" videos, in which the real travel films, which are carefully designed, well
shot and intelligently assembled, simply drown.

The task of our festival is to draw attention to such films. To films that are worth watching.

If you are shooting travel films, you are likely to have a strong desire to share your impressions.

With those who are interested in travelling, and travelling of the exact type and style, which you are attracted by the most. With those who will evaluate your work. With those who will follow your example. With those who will join you in your next trip. With those who will participate in the creation of your next film.

Our festival is created to find and unite all of these people.

People travel all year round - without any weekends and holidays. Therefore, our festival is held all year round. The provisional results are summed up once per quarter, at the end of the season - winter, spring, and summer. Every autumn the best films are shown on a big screen, and the winners are determined.

The films, which were selected to participate in the festival, will be uploaded to be displayed on our website and in the social networks - as a complete artwork (only with the consent of the author) or as a trailer for the wide view and discussion. Authors will be able to obtain feedback from the thankful or displeased viewers.

All best films that were selected during the online festival, will be shown on the big screen during the solemn final ceremony on October 20-22, 2023 in Limassol (Lemesos) on the island of Cyprus and will be able to struggle for the main prize and the title of the "Best travel film". As well as for the prizes in the standalone nominations.

We admit only the films about travels, both modern and historical ones. As well as those films, where travel is an important part of the synopsis. Fiction, production, animated and documentary films on any types of travel and adventures on the water and in the air, on land and under it, in the mountains and forests, on seas, rivers, lakes, swamps, about hiking, ski trek, rides on public transport, on vehicles and motorcycles, bikes, hitch-hiking, bus tours, pilgrimage tours, round-the-world trips... As well as web-series and music videos, the storyline of which is based on travel.

Not all creators of travel films are necessarily the professionals, who work in the movies industry or on television. This is just a hobby for the majority of contestants. However, this does not mean that their films are worse. The original story that is told in the film plays a far more important role than its budget or the awards of its creator. You can make a good film even if you do not have a large budget, stellar cast and a large production team. You hold the keys to the kingdom. Go ahead!

The SECCIÓN WESTERN continues to be a parallel section of the Certamen de cine corto de Salas de los Infantes, although the screenings of the selected short films and the Awards Gala will take place outside the official dates of the Certamen de cine corto de Salas de los Infantes.

This decision has been made with the intention of being able to dedicate the time, which due to the characteristics of the genre it addresses, we believe is necessary for the exhibition of the participating projects.

“The Quarantine” is an international short film festival aimed at popularizing young and unknown authors among professional filmmakers’ circles. The festival is organized on completely voluntary basis, there are no screening fees and nobody receives any payment.

The festival takes place on the beach at “The Quarantine” fishing village which is the last standing fishing village in Varna, Bulgaria. The village is in danger of disappearing because a luxury residential complex is under construction on the coastline behind it. By provoking cultural exchange between contemporary artists from the whole world and locals, we intend to turn the fishing village into a culture and art zone and to preserve the fishermen’s way of life.

The name of the region “The Quarantine” comes from the past when sailors from commercial ships entering the harbour with suspicion of some kind of disease were taken ashore at the beach for the quarantine period of 40 days. In case they showed no signs of illness, they were allowed access to town. At present, the young authors who have still not found their realisation are in the state of a “Quarantine” – isolated by professional filmmakers’ circles. In analogy to the history of the location, we decided to name the festival “The Quarantine”.
